The American Shakespeare Center celebrated its 2014 Words in Action Award winner, Colin O’ Grady, at Shakespeare’s Birthday Party at the Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, Va.
As crowds gathered at the playhouse for the big event, the ASC actors encouraged the audience to dance and sing. Early in the party, the ASC actors and Director of Education, Sarah Enloe, announced the award by reading the nominating words of Mr O’Grady’s students while his wife and daughter, Olivia Kate, watched the joyful room. Each year, beginning in 2006, ASC Education recognizes its Words in Action award winner for, in the words of William Shakespeare, being “Great in act as you have been in thought.” The staff and actors at the ASC select winners from nominees submitted to americanshakespearecenter.com.
Mr. O’Grady received more nominations than any other teacher in the running this year, the company agreed that the high quality of both writing of his nominations and the sentiment contained Mr. O’Grady also paid a visit to the American Shakespeare Center’s Quarterly Trustees meeting to receive congratulations and praise and to tell the Chair, Mary McDermott, and others about his success as a teacher.
