Do you have 10am Monday August 11 pencilled in your diary, pasted into your e-planner or scribbled on a Post-It note and stuck somewhere prominent? Well, you should do – if, that is, you want to have a hope in hell of getting to see Benedict Cumberbatch tread the boards at the Barbican in 2015 as Hamlet.
To judge by the huge excitement at home and abroad that already surrounds this production that appointed hour will unleash an unrivalled box-office stampede as tickets – as yet unpriced – go on sale to the general public.
Mind you, if you’re prepared to stump up £100, to become a “red member” of the Barbican, you could put yourself at the front of the queue by more than a week – the priority booking period opens at 10am on August 1. That’s quite tempting, isn’t it? Instead of jostling for position with the world and his or her teenage offspring, you could reduce the levels of sweat and angst and perhaps even jet off on holiday without a further thought on the matter, problem solved.
