A collage of a city voicing the words of Shakespeare, NYSX brings the Bard’s 154 sonnets to 154 different locations, in 154 mini movies. This project brings actors from all over New York City to recite every sonnet created by Shakespeare. Each sonnet, conveyed through narratives, brings the centuries old words to life through the talent of local artists. Different actors perform each piece as part of an effort to spread awareness of Shakespeare’s work in a contemporary and accessible medium. The project is ongoing; videos are continuously uploaded onto New York Shakespeare Exchange’s website, YouTube, and a soon-to-be-released mobile app. Ross Williams, the company’s artistic director, hopes to reach a million viewers by Shakespeare’s birthday on April 23.
