In the more than 400 years since Shakespeare’s plays were written, it is likely that his complex, multi-faceted, richly detailed main characters have been viewed in many different ways.
Nowhere is that more evident than in “The Merchant of Venice,” currently running at Hopewell’s Off-Broadstreet Theatre through June 14.
Shylock (played by Barry Abramowitz) and Portia (Kyla Mostello Donnelly) face off in court over a debt Shylock demands to collect from one of his long-standing enemies, Antonio (the play’s title character played by Steve Lobis). […continued]
