It may not be something we see often, but back in Shakespeare’s day, it was just another performance.
For its 24th Shakespeare in the Park series, the Hudson Shakespeare Company will perform a cross-gendered version of “Love’s Labours Lost” — meaning men will play women’s roles and the women will play men’s.
“Shakespeare’s male actors did it their day and many of his other plays feature cross dressed women who dress up as men, so we’re going more for what behaviors or attitudes make up what it means to man or woman as played by the opposite gender,” said director Jon Ciccarelli.
