‘House of Cards” star Kevin Spacey is a bit of a Hollywood maverick.
The two-time Academy Award winner left Tinseltown a decade ago to become artistic director at The Old Vic theater in London.
“Over a long period of time, certainly since I started to do well in film … people look at me with a puzzled look on their face, ‘Why theater?’ ” Spacey told the Herald from Washington, D.C. “People put too much value on film, TV and money. I’m a theater rat. I’ve been in the theater since junior high. It’s taught me everything I know.”
Now the New Jersey native shares his passion for theater with a broader audience in his self-funded, produced and released documentary, “NOW: In the Wings on a World Stage.” The only Boston-area screening is tomorrow at Kendall Square Cinema in Cambridge. The 93-minute documentary follows The Bridge Project, a transatlantic theater company created by director Sam Mendes (“American Beauty”) and Spacey, as they perform William Shakespeare’s “Richard III” on a 10-month-long, globe-trekking tour. […continued]
